Copyright and Licensing

For all articles published in the SALAM Digest: Syariah and Law Undergraduate Symposium, authors retain their copyright. The articles are distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License, allowing free download and reading. The work can be reused and cited as long as the original version is credited, ensuring maximum visibility while acknowledging the authors' contributions.

In special cases, articles may have different licensing. If specific conditions, such as funding requirements, necessitate a different license, please inform the SALAM Digest: Syariah and Law Undergraduate Symposium Managing Editorial. Exceptions will be considered at the publisher's discretion.

Reproducing Published Material from Other Publishers

Authors must obtain permission to reproduce any published material (figures, tables, text excerpts) that is not public domain or under their copyright. Permission should be sought from the copyright holder (typically the publisher, as indicated in the publication's imprint).

Permission is required for:

  • Your works published elsewhere without retained copyright.
  • Substantial excerpts from others' works.
  • Use of unaltered or slightly modified tables, graphs, charts, schemes, and artworks.
  • Photographs not under your copyright.

Permission is not required for:

  • Reconstructed tables with previously published data, provided the source is cited as "Data from..." or "Adapted from...".
  • Short quotes under fair use.
  • Graphs, charts, schemes, and artworks significantly redrawn and altered beyond recognition.

Obtaining Permission

To avoid publication delays, begin obtaining permissions early. If uncertain about copyright, apply for permission. The SALAM Digest: Syariah and Law Undergraduate Symposium cannot publish material from other sources without appropriate permissions.

The copyright holder may specify acknowledgment instructions. If not, use the format: "Reproduced with permission from [author], [book/journal title]; published by [publisher], [year]" at the end of the table, figure, or scheme caption.

All other website content (including text, computer code, artwork, photographs, images, music, audio material, video material, and audio-visual material) is owned by the SALAM Digest: Syariah and Law Undergraduate Symposium, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, and its licensors.

Budapest Open Access Initiative

The SALAM Digest: Syariah and Law Undergraduate Symposium is an open access journal, meaning all content is freely accessible without charge to users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the articles' full texts without seeking prior permission from the publisher or author, in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) definition of open access.
